About ME

About

I'm a high school history teacher living in the southeastern United States, but I can't cover everything I love about history in class - so I created "Not Herodotus" (@NotHerodotus) on TikTok to share the interesting and important parts of our shared global history. I'm honored that so many people have chosen to go on this educational journey with me, and I'm incredibly grateful for the other creators I've been able to meet along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why "Not Herodotus"?

A: Herodotus, an ancient Greek historian, is often called "the father of history" for his monumental contributions to the field. And while I may teach history, I'm certainly no Herodotus. So I chose "Not Herodotus" as my name to reflect this; I will always have more to learn and more to aspire to. I'm just glad I have so many wonderful people along for the ride.
Q: Is "Not Herodotus" a reliable source?A: Although I cite my sources and put a lot of effort into my content, I am not a reliable source. I haven't published my full educational qualifications or my real name, I'm not sponsored by any educational institution, and most importantly, I don't have a team of editors to review or fact-check my content. As a one-person operation, it's very easy for a mistake or misinterpretation to make its way into a video. So while I certainly do my best, always feel free to check my sources instead of taking everything I say as fact.
Q: What do you do in the real world?A: Even in the "real world" I still teach history. I teach Modern World History, APMWH, US Government, and Economics at a public school in the rural Southeastern US. I am also a registered STOP THE BLEED® instructor and a certified Basic Life Support instructor with the American Heart Association.
Q: What are your qualifications? A: B.A. in Secondary Social Studies Education (Cum Laude), M. Ed. in Instructional Technology (est. graduation spring 2024).
Q: What are your affiliations?A: You can check out an ongoing list of past and present affiliations/sponsorships by clicking here.

I don't charge for content, but you can always buy me a coffee to show your support.
